Welcome to the Contemporary Elder Institute's Faculty = Reverend Stephen Garrett

Welcome, Reverend Stephen Garrett

The mission of The Contemporary Elder Institute is to develop a pathway for late-aged professionals to become elders who will go out into the world and provide higher wisdom in substantive interactions and relationships.

We mean substantive as defined:

1: having substance: involving matters of major or practical importance to all concerned

2: real rather than apparent: FIRM; PERMANENT, ENDURING

a: belonging to the substance of a thing: ESSENTIAL

  b: expressing existence

3. being a totally independent entity

To that end, we are developing a faculty that is crucial for this passage from older to elder.

The relationship one has with their death is paramount to becoming an elder. The Reverend Stephen Garrett, a premiere and tenured teacher, author, mentor, coach, and leader in grief, death and dying, has accepted our offer to be on our faculty.

Welcome, Stephen.

You are now the "old age" problem. But the list is getting pretty long. Right behind you, Markey, Blumenthal, Durbin, King, Cardin Risch, Grassley, and Sanders, all in their mid to late 70s and some in their early 80s. And let’s not forget Pelosi.

Complete awareness is when you are entirely engaged with "what is" so that the me, the them, or the it disappears. Only "what is" is.

One area I have come to appreciate and continue to explore is language and its stunning impact. Arnold Siegel, Werner Erhard, and Fernando Flores were the first to open my eyes 45 years ago to the power of language.
